Mosh Ben Ari Celebrates 56th Birthday: A Look at His Musical Journey

Israeli singer-songwriter Mosh Ben Ari is celebrating his 56th birthday. Known for his distinctive voice and unique blend of ethnic and reggae sounds, Ben Ari has become a prominent figure in Israeli music. His career began in his hometown of Afula, where his family's musical traditions, rooted in Yemenite and Iraqi heritage, laid the foundation for his diverse style.

Ben Ari's formative experiences included extensive travels in India, the Sahara, and Sinai during his youth. These journeys exposed him to various ethnic musical traditions and inspired him to learn traditional instruments like the 'joumbush,' 'tar,' and 'saz,' which he later incorporated into his own music. He also pursued formal music studies.

In 1995, Ben Ari co-founded the band 'Sheva,' which introduced a novel fusion of world music, spiritual lyrics, and reggae to the Israeli scene. The band achieved significant success both domestically and internationally, performing at major festivals. Hits like "Slam" ("Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu") and their rendition of "Shir LaMa'alot" became iconic.

Following the success of 'Sheva,' Ben Ari launched a thriving solo career in 2001 with his debut album "Ad Eli." His third album, "Masa U'Matan" (2007), achieved gold status, and its title track became one of the most frequently played songs on Israeli radio. Visually, his long dreadlocks were a signature element for decades. Beyond music, Ben Ari has also ventured into business, co-founding the "Hof Mosh" hospitality complex in Eilat. He has collaborated with numerous Israeli artists, including Berry Sakharof, Muki, and Ivri Lider, as well as international musicians, and has also written songs for other artists, maintaining his unique sound.
