Spain cruised to a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Monday night World Cup action, as the tournament continued with four matches and the group stage moved closer to its conclusion.
Lamine Yamal made his first World Cup start for La Roja and scored inside 10 minutes. Mikel Oyarzabal, who had not touched the ball in the first half-hour against Cape Verde, then took over with two goals in the 21st and 24th minutes, both set up by Yamal.
The fourth Spanish goal came in the 49th minute when Hassan Tambakti turned the ball into his own net. Fran Torres had a goal disallowed in the 92nd minute after a lengthy VAR review.
Elsewhere, Helio Varela scored a historic goal, and another match featured a goal and an assist from one of Liverpool’s greatest players of all time. The night’s other results were New Zealand 3-1 Egypt and Belgium 0-0 Iran.
