Supreme Court to Hear Challenges Against Arab Lawmakers' Candidacies
Israel's Supreme Court is scheduled to hear appeals next Thursday concerning the disqualification of several candidates and a political list from the upcoming elections. The Central Elections Committee had previously ruled to disqualify Sami Abu Shehadeh, chairman of the Balad party, and MK Ofer Cassif, along with the Joint List, the slate Cassif is expected to run with.
The first hearing will focus on Abu Shehadeh's disqualification before a panel of nine justices, including the court's president. Subsequently, the court will address the disqualification of Cassif and the Joint List.
Both hearings will be presided over by President Yitzhak Amit and Justices Esther Hayut, Uzi Fogelman, Isaac Amit, Noam Sohlberg, Daphne Barak-Erez, Anat Baron, Yael Willner, and Khaled Kabub. Representatives from Otzma Yehudit, Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Abu Shehadeh, and the Attorney General have been summoned for the Abu Shehadeh hearing. Representatives from the Likud party, Cassif, and the Joint List have been summoned for the hearing on Cassif and the Joint List's disqualification.
