Defense Minister Katz Meets Chabad Delegation to Discuss Rabbi's Security Views

Defense Minister Israel Katz held an unusual meeting at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv with a delegation from the Chabad Hasidic movement. The discussion focused on the security and political philosophy of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the late leader of Chabad.

The meeting, held near the anniversary of Rabbi Schneerson's passing and ahead of the Sukkot holiday, centered on the new book 'Oseh Shalom' (Makes Peace). This book compiles the Rebbe's views on foreign policy and security matters.

During the lengthy discussion, participants reviewed the book, quoted from the Rebbe's talks, and debated contemporary security issues in light of his teachings. Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak HaCohen Aronow, chairman of Agudat Chasidei Chabad, emphasized the importance of decision-makers adhering to the Rebbe's principles for national security and governance.

Minister Katz presented Israel's security doctrine using maps in his office, comparing them with the Rebbe's perspectives on space and policy. The delegation included Rabbi Ariel Lemberger, Rabbi Yehiel Gluckowsky, Rabbi Elisha Perl, Rabbi Itai Boymgarten, and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ofen, who discussed the historical role of prophets in guiding Israel and the contemporary responsibility of leaders to study the Rebbe's teachings.

The participants also noted the significance of the 13th of Tishrei, the anniversary of Rabbi Schneerson's passing, and the associated Hasidic saying 'Lechatchila Ariber' (from the start, go over). The meeting concluded with the delegation presenting Minister Katz and his advisors with sets of the Four Species for Sukkot, fostering a unique Hasidic atmosphere focused on the connection between the Rebbe's teachings and current national security challenges.
