Republican Party Drops Candidate Over Israel Conspiracy Theories
The Republican Party in Maryland has withdrawn its support for a state Senate candidate, Harold Maldonado, after he promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media. Party officials decided to revoke their backing due to Maldonado's posts, in which he alleged that Israel's intelligence agency, the Mossad, controls local public officials.
Maldonado also claimed that Israel was behind the September 11th attacks and linked the country to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and an attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The local Republican chairman, Dennis Melby, stated that the party "opposes antisemitism and all forms of conspiracy theories."
