Abbas Addresses UN, Accuses Israel of 'Destruction' in Gaza, Calls for Demilitarized Palestinian State

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, in a speech broadcast to the UN General Assembly, leveled severe accusations against Israel, calling for a defined political timeline and the establishment of a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside Israel. Abbas claimed the Palestinian population in Gaza is suffering from destruction, starvation, and war, accusing Israel of attempting to uproot Palestinians and engaging in severe acts of killing and annihilation.

He further accused Israel of accelerating settlement expansion, fragmenting territorial contiguity, and intensifying raids and enforcement actions, damaging property and land. Abbas referenced UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the activities of the Peace Council, urging accelerated steps to set a clear target date for ending the interim period by the end of 2027.

The PA president welcomed steps taken by various countries, including Britain, to protect the two-state solution. He appealed to US President Donald Trump to prevent annexation measures. Abbas condemned attacks on civilians, terrorism, and extremism from all sides, emphasizing the PA's fight against racism and hatred and its commitment to coexistence.

He reiterated the Palestinian aspiration for a democratic and demilitarized state alongside Israel.
