Jordanian Official Warns Israel's Government Hinders Regional Peace

A Jordanian official close to the government told Kan News on Thursday that King Abdullah II's recent "aggressive speech" towards Israel at the UN General Assembly speaks for itself regarding the poor state of relations between the King and the current Israeli leadership. The official stated that the King has been warning for over two decades about the consequences of leaving the conflict unresolved, noting that escalation continues unabated on multiple fronts, including the West Bank, Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.

According to the source, the Jordanian King harbors significant frustration with Israel, which was evident in his strong address this week where he declared that Israel and its expansionist ambitions pose a threat to the entire region. This sentiment was echoed by Jordanian commentator Daham Fawaz, who told Kan News from Amman that "our problem is not with Israel, but with the current government in Israel and its policies that are hindering peace in the region."

It is inferred that Amman is impatiently awaiting the outcome of the upcoming Israeli elections, hoping for a change in direction. "Even if not officially stated, there is no doubt that Arab countries are expecting a change of course here after the elections," an anonymous diplomat from an unnamed regional country told Kan News.
