Ashdod Opens New Northern Pier After 5 Years and Millions in Investment

Ashdod inaugurated its new Northern Pier on Thursday, a project that began in 2021 and aims to enhance the city's coastal attractions. The pier extends 550 meters along the urban coastline, divided into two sections: a 250-meter segment leading to the pier's gate and a 300-meter segment extending to its end. The total investment in the project reached approximately 12 million shekels, with an additional 5.1 million shekels contributed by the Ministry of Tourism.

The development included upgrading an existing path for improved accessibility and safety, installing new lighting, shaded areas, and seating spaces. Fences were removed, railings were installed along the breakwater, and the separating wall for the marina was improved. A separation was also created between the upper and lower levels of the pier, with the lower level accommodating school activities.

The Northern Pier is a significant addition to Ashdod's existing beachfront promenade, which now stretches from the Lakhish River estuary to the new pier. It offers residents and visitors a new destination for walking, relaxing, and enjoying sea and marina views, contributing to the development of public spaces along the coast.

An Ashdod Municipality statement highlighted the pier as another reason for people to visit the sea, emphasizing Ashdod's beautiful beaches, which hold the international Blue Flag designation. The municipality stated its commitment to nurturing this asset and developing quality public spaces, reinforcing Ashdod's status as a tourist city and strengthening its connection to the sea.
