Top Digital Executive Nir Cohen Departs Channel 13 After Two Years

Nir (Shoko) Cohen, a senior executive at Israel's Channel 13, is leaving the network after just over two years in his role as Deputy CEO of Digital and Current Affairs. Cohen, considered one of Israel's leading news editors, previously held significant positions at Yedioth Ahronoth Group, including serving as the editor of ynet's studio and later as deputy editor-in-chief and head of the news division. In his final year at Yedioth, he also hosted ynet's news studio and wrote a political column.

Cohen was brought to Channel 13 by former CEO Emiliano Calzruz during a crisis involving Yulia Shamalov's appointment as Deputy CEO of News. Due to the ongoing crisis and a labor union appeal to the High Court of Justice, Cohen was appointed to lead the digital and current affairs division.

During his tenure, Cohen was credited with strengthening Channel 13's digital presence. He upgraded and branded the 13+ app, launched digital initiatives like the micro-drama "Double Lives," and developed successful digital brands such as "The Stirrer." He also played a role in connecting commentator Eyal Berkovic with journalist Moria Asraf for a program that became a success. In current affairs, Cohen is noted for stabilizing the division during a period of turmoil and repeated attempts to sell the channel.

His departure is seen as a significant loss for the new management team, led by Assaf Rappaport and Idan Elrom. Channel 13 confirmed the news, stating, "We thank Nir for his contribution and years of work for the company and wish him success in all his future endeavors."
