Creators to Release Gaza War Film 'NZA' Online for Free

Filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Racheli Frydman, in collaboration with The Guardian, have announced that their documentary "NZA" will be made available for free online viewing without time limits. The film is slated for release on digital platforms in November. The creators are also offering to screen the film for free at Israeli cinemas, alongside its international theatrical release.

Abraham stated that the decision aims to allow the Israeli public to access the film's content despite what he described as "violence aimed at its suppression." "NZA" is based on a three-year journalistic investigation and features filmed testimonies from 24 soldiers. The filmmakers intend for the documentary to spark public discussion about the government and military's actions in Gaza, focusing on rules of engagement, civilian casualties, and infrastructure destruction.

Abraham emphasized that the details presented in the film have been verified. Responding to recent criticism, he clarified that exposing events in Gaza does not diminish the severity of Hamas's October 7th attack. "On the contrary," he wrote, "ignoring what is happening in Gaza is one of the factors that paved the way for that terrible Saturday." He also addressed accusations of treason, stating, "Journalism is not treason, and criticism is not treason. It is the duty of every citizen whose government commits crimes to know, and of every soldier who witnessed them to tell."

Despite reports of threats and a "heavy personal price" paid by the creators recently, Abraham affirmed his and Frydman's intention to return to Israel soon and continue their work. "The threats will not help, they do not deter us," he concluded.
