Israel Approves Fee Waiver for Reserve Soldiers Building Homes

The Israel Land Authority has approved a waiver on extension fees for reserve soldiers building single-family homes in 2026. This decision is expected to save each eligible soldier approximately NIS 25,000 (approximately $6,700 USD).

The exemption applies to reservists who served at least 60 days in combat roles during 2026. Typically, contracts with the Israel Land Authority include construction deadlines, and delays require payment for an extension. The Authority acknowledged that extended reserve duty has prevented some soldiers from meeting these construction timelines.

Eligible soldiers who meet the 60-day service requirement will receive an extension for 2026 without charge. Those who have already paid for an extension for that year can apply for a refund, with the amount adjusted for inflation.

The 60-day service threshold aligns with housing benefit eligibility criteria established by a government decision in May 2025. Yehuda Eliyahu, acting director of the Israel Land Authority, stated that the decision reflects a commitment to honoring reserve soldiers and ensuring the state supports them in building their homes. He added that the waiver aims to significantly ease their financial burden related to construction delays caused by their service, allowing them to build their homes with peace of mind while serving in the reserves.
