Bereaved Mother Who Lost Son on Oct. 7 Appointed Judge

Ingrid Har Even, a seasoned lawyer and a bereaved mother, was sworn in as a judge in the Jerusalem Family Court last week, concluding a legal career spanning three decades. Har Even is the mother of Major Shila Har Even, who fell at the age of 25 during combat at the Nirim base on the morning of the October 7th Hamas attack.

Shila Har Even, who served in the Egoz unit and two months prior to his death took command of a company in the Golani Brigade's 13th Battalion, was responsible for the Nirim sector. On October 7th, he led his soldiers in a fierce battle against hundreds of terrorists who infiltrated the area. For hours, Shila and his troops fought, eliminating dozens of militants and defending the Nirim and Sa'ad areas.

Even after being wounded, Shila refused to evacuate, choosing instead to remain with his soldiers and continue commanding the fight until his death. During the swearing-in ceremony at the President's Residence, Supreme Court President Justice Yitzhak Amit personally addressed Ingrid and her family, stating, "Dear Ingrid and all the family, we all feel the pain that Shila is not with us on this moving day."
