A World Cup match between France and Iraq is scheduled to kick off at midnight between Monday and Tuesday in Philadelphia, but weather forecasts show a thunderstorm could hit at game time. That raises the possibility that the match could be delayed or even suspended.
If that happens, it would be the first time in the tournament that weather disrupts the schedule. There had already been similar concern before Uruguay’s opening-round match against Saudi Arabia, but that game went ahead as planned.
The report notes that comparable weather-related disruptions did occur at last summer’s Club World Cup in the United States, where six matches were delayed or interrupted. So far, all matches in the 2026 World Cup have been played without any disruption.
