Generation Z Shifts Focus to Wellness, Experiences Over Traditional Milestones
Generation Z in Israel is redefining social interactions and life priorities, moving away from traditional dating and financial goals. Instead of face-to-face encounters or phone calls, they prefer communication through apps and video calls. This generation also prioritizes psychological well-being and "wellness" activities over alcohol consumption and clubbing, and invests in international travel rather than saving for housing.
In the realm of dating, Gen Z finds initiating contact in person daunting, with most interactions beginning on apps or social media. Surveys indicate a low percentage of men and women feel comfortable approaching strangers. This reluctance is partly attributed to a perception of the world as hostile and prone to public shaming. Spontaneous phone calls are also seen as intrusive, with video calls becoming the preferred method of communication, offering the ease of ending a conversation abruptly.
"Wellness," encompassing physical and mental health, has become a central life focus for Gen Z, with a significant portion exercising regularly and prioritizing fitness. This shift has led to a decline in alcohol consumption, impacting the industry. Instead of nightlife, young adults are investing in emotional therapy and workshops.
Financially, Gen Z's outlook contrasts sharply with previous generations. The desire to "devour the world" now often supersedes long-term savings for homes or mortgages, with a preference for immediate experiences like international travel and concerts. This approach is partly seen as a coping mechanism for local uncertainty, especially following the events of October 7th.
Despite a perceived focus on immediate gratification and digital life, Gen Z demonstrated significant resilience and commitment. They were the first to report for reserve duty on October 7th, proving their strength and patriotism beyond their online personas.
