Israel's Elbit Systems Equips New IDF Armored Vehicles, Supplies UK Military

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are integrating advanced defense technologies into their combat doctrine, exemplified by the recent display of the new Eitan armored personnel carrier equipped with Elbit Systems' "Iron Fist" active protection system. This system, designed to defend armored platforms against a wide array of modern battlefield threats including anti-tank missiles and drones, provides 360-degree protection. The Eitan APC itself is a significant upgrade from older models like the M113, boasting modern technology, speed, and capacity for up to 12 personnel.

This technological advancement comes as Israel faces international criticism from some nations, yet these same countries continue to procure and utilize Israeli defense technology. A prime example is the United Kingdom, where Elbit UK, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, has supplied advanced training systems. The British 16 Air Assault Brigade recently used Elbit UK's RSTS (Recce Strike Training System) for a large-scale exercise, simulating combined arms operations. Furthermore, Elbit UK secured a substantial contract with the UK Ministry of Defense for simulators for the Challenger 3 tank and Boxer infantry fighting vehicle, highlighting the dual approach of political criticism alongside significant defense cooperation.

Globally, the use of unmanned systems is rapidly expanding beyond drones to include unmanned ground, naval, and underwater vehicles. In the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey possesses the region's largest navy, prompting rivals like Greece to develop their own unmanned naval capabilities. Greece is exploring solutions such as the UCANDRONE, an unmanned surface vessel designed for mine-laying and swarm attacks, showcasing the growing trend towards autonomous and networked warfare capabilities.
