Israeli police said they arrested a 32-year-old man from Azor ahead of Sunday’s Tel Aviv derby in the Premier League basketball Final Four at Menora Hall in Tel Aviv. Officers found 59 flares on him, along with material suspected to be cocaine.
According to police, during preparations for the game, officers spotted a bag that raised their suspicions near the stadium. Shortly afterward, the suspect arrived, took the bag into his possession, and was stopped by police.
Police said the arrest was made by Tel Aviv South Station officers in the Ayalon district as part of security arrangements for the derby at Menora Hall. The suspect was taken to Tel Aviv South Station for questioning.
Police said that depending on the results of the investigation, they will ask the court to extend his detention.
