Heated Clash Erupts After Joint List Disqualified from Knesset Election

Moments after the Central Elections Committee voted 18-5 to disqualify the Joint List from participating in the upcoming elections, a heated confrontation occurred outside the committee hall. An activist from the "Orut HaShachar" (Lights of Dawn) party confronted representatives of the Joint List, shouting, "You will not be in the Knesset!" The activist later explained his stance to the camera, stating that the Joint List represents enemies of the Jewish people who seek to destroy Israel from within. He invoked the October 7th attacks, saying, "For the blood of the children, we have a debt to the blood of those murdered since October 7th." He vowed that his party would ensure they do not enter the Knesset.

Dr. Yousef Jabareen, chairman of the Joint List, condemned the committee's decision in a conversation with "Kikar Hashabat," calling it "a very difficult decision that severely harms the right to elect and be elected of the Arab public." He argued that it is unacceptable for a country calling itself democratic to disqualify all parties representing the Arab public. Jabareen announced that the decision would be appealed to the Supreme Court, expressing hope that the court would not endorse what he termed "the racist, fascist persecution" witnessed at the committee.

The Central Elections Committee's decision to disqualify the Joint List was made with 18 votes in favor and 5 against. A representative from Agudat Yisrael abstained, and a representative from Degel HaTorah was absent from the vote. The committee's reasoning for the disqualification will be forwarded to the Supreme Court for review.
