US Senators Propose Sanctions on E1 Construction Project

A group of Democratic U.S. senators has introduced a bill that would impose sanctions on any individual, company, or entity involved in promoting, funding, or transferring civilians for the construction project in the E1 area. Senator Chris Coons stated that the United States must send a strong message against the violence and destruction faced by Palestinians from extremist settlers. He emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and that the U.S. remains committed to freedom, security, prosperity, and self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians.

The proposed legislation targets activities related to the controversial E1 development, which is situated between Jerusalem and the West Bank settlement of Ma'ale Adumim. Critics argue that the E1 project would sever Palestinian contiguity between the northern and southern West Bank and undermine the viability of a two-state solution.
