Court Rejects Roni Mizrahi Group's $12 Million Lawsuit Against Bank

The Central District Court has completely dismissed a NIS 12 million lawsuit filed by the Roni Mizrahi Group against Union Bank. The real estate group had sought substantial financial compensation, alleging the bank overcharged it on interest and fees during the past decade. However, the judges rejected all of the company's claims and sharply criticized its conduct.

According to the Bizportal website, the group claimed the bank had exploited its position to impose unlawful and excessive interest charges. The judges, after a thorough review of the data, determined that "the bank's conduct was without fault" and clarified that all charges were made in accordance with signed agreements. The ruling explicitly stated that "the plaintiffs' claims of overcharging are fully rejected" due to a lack of evidence of account management failures.

During the legal proceedings, the court highlighted a series of serious shortcomings by the developer, uncovering extensive building code violations committed by the group over the years. The judge strongly criticized Roni Mizrahi's attempt to dictate financing terms, noting that "the developer's conduct in seeking to determine interest rates on loans himself was without legal basis." It was clarified during the hearing that "the extensive building violations discovered in the company's projects directly impacted the level of banking risk."

The court's decision to dismiss the NIS 12 million claim imposes heavy legal costs on the Roni Mizrahi Group and represents a significant reputational and financial blow. Legal and banking experts commented that "the ruling sends a strong message against attempts by large borrowers to disavow signed agreements." The bank's lawyers expressed great satisfaction with the decision, stating that "justice has prevailed and a baseless, frivolous lawsuit has been nullified."
