Israeli TV Host Praises Sukkot Preparations Amid Political Debate

Israeli television host Eviatar "Evi" Gilead expressed a moment of calm and "Israeli sanity" on Wednesday while commuting to his radio show on 103fm. He described seeing municipal workers in Ramat Hasharon cutting palm branches for Sukkot decorations, calling it a "moment of sanity within the madness."

Gilead also briefly commented on a recent proposal by Avigdor Lieberman suggesting Jordan should manage Palestinian Authority areas. Gilead noted that following the Jordanian King's speech at the UN, Lieberman's suggestion seemed "less relevant," but he deferred judgment. He urged the public to offer ideas for Israel's security management.

Earlier, Defense Minister Israel Katz strongly criticized Lieberman's proposal, which suggested Jordan could have administrative and security control over Areas A and B in the West Bank. Katz accused Lieberman and Yair Golan, the designated defense minister in a potential rotation government, of dangerous intentions that disregard the lessons of the October 7th attacks. Katz claimed Lieberman's past proposals, including a unilateral withdrawal from Gaza and handing the Philadelphi Corridor to Egypt, align with his current suggestion of placing Jordanian forces in Kalkilya, near Highway 6, and giving Jordan security control over West Bank areas. Katz asserted that Jordan's stated policy is the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Katz further stated that Golan intends to evacuate 100,000 Jewish settlers from their homes upon taking office. Katz contrasted these proposals with his government's actions, claiming they have "crushed terrorism" in the West Bank, reduced terror incidents by 80%, and established numerous new settlements and outposts. He warned that a left-wing government, dependent on Arab parties, would endanger settlements and national security by pursuing such policies.
