Nissan X-Trail Debuts New Hybrid Powertrain and Design in US

Nissan has unveiled the fifth generation of its X-Trail SUV, known as the Rogue in the North American market. While sharing its platform and dimensions with the current model, the new X-Trail features a completely redesigned exterior and interior, along with an exclusive hybrid powertrain for its US launch. The exterior draws inspiration from the Hyper Adventure concept, showcasing sharp angles, a distinctive V-motion grille that extends to the headlights, and a honeycomb-patterned grille. Notable design elements include a floating roof effect created by a cut-off rear pillar and polygonal alloy wheels. Dimensions remain largely unchanged, with a length of 4.65 meters, width of 1.85 meters, height of 1.72 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters.

The interior is entirely new, featuring an angular dashboard, a V-shaped central console, and a unified display housing a 12.3-inch or 14.3-inch infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system runs on Google's platform, offering Google Maps, Gemini assistant, an app store, and wireless smartphone connectivity. Options include a Bose sound system, a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and heated cup holders. The vehicle is equipped with Nissan's ProPILOT system, providing advanced driver-assistance features.

Under the hood, the US-spec X-Trail is powered solely by a hybrid system. This e-POWER setup utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline engine (148 hp) paired with two electric motors, one for the front (202 hp) and one for the rear (134 hp), creating an all-wheel-drive configuration. The combined output is 225 hp, delivered through a single-speed transmission, with the primary drive being electric. Fuel economy is rated at 16.2 km per liter according to EPA standards. The European launch, and subsequently the Israeli market release, is expected in about a year.
