Nissan X-Trail Gets Major Redesign, Hybrid Power for US Market
Nissan has unveiled the fifth generation of its X-Trail SUV, known as the Rogue in the North American market. The new model boasts a completely redesigned exterior, drawing inspiration from the Hyper Adventure concept and the Juke EV. Key exterior changes include a V-shaped grille extending to the headlights, a honeycomb-patterned grille, angular bumpers, and a distinctive floating roof effect created by a cut-off rear pillar. Despite the fresh look, dimensions remain largely unchanged from the outgoing model, with a length of 4.65 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters.
The interior also receives a significant overhaul, featuring an angular dashboard, a V-shaped central console, and a unified rectangular frame housing digital displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The infotainment system is Google-based, offering Google Maps, Gemini assistant, and an app store, with wireless smartphone connectivity. Higher trims include a Bose sound system, a head-up display, and heated and cooled seats.
Under the hood, the US-spec X-Trail is exclusively offered with a hybrid powertrain. This e-POWER system utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine (148 hp) paired with two electric motors, providing all-wheel drive. The front electric motor produces 202 hp and the rear 134 hp, drawing power from a 1.67 kWh battery. The combined output is 225 hp, delivered through a single-speed transmission, with an emphasis on electric-driven propulsion. Fuel economy is rated at 16.2 km per liter under the EPA standard.
Nissan's ProPILOT driver assistance system is standard, incorporating features like hands-free driving and automatic lane changes. The European launch is expected in about a year, with availability in Israel to be announced later. The article questions whether the shared platform with the current generation and minimal dimensional changes constitute a true new generation or a comprehensive facelift.
