Iranian President Arrives in New York for UN General Assembly Speech

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in New York City, where he is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. The United States approved entry visas for Pezeshkian and his delegation last week, despite ongoing tensions between the two nations. The Iranian delegation is subject to movement restrictions during their stay in the U.S.

Pezeshkian's visit comes amid a period of heightened animosity between Iran and the U.S., particularly following the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. State Department stated that visa decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with U.S. obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement. The agreement generally requires the U.S. to allow foreign diplomats access to the UN headquarters in New York.
