Iranian officials and regime-aligned commentators mocked U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday after he threatened new strikes on Iran if Tehran does not restrain its proxies in Lebanon. Trump wrote that “Iran must stop immediately the trouble that they are causing through their proxies in Lebanon” and warned that if it does not, the United States will “strike Iran again very hard, just like last week, only harder.”
The comments came amid continued tension between Washington and Tehran and growing concern that the confrontation could widen across the region. The dispute is also unfolding as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
Among the Iranian responses, Saeed Mohammad Marandi, a commentator identified with the regime, reposted Trump’s message and called him a “Sore loser,” adding a laughing emoji. Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei also attacked Trump on X, saying the U.S. president was angry over the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz and was threatening that he could control the strait and become “its guardian king.” Rezaei said that “only a fool can make such completely empty claims.”
Rezaei added that if pressure on Iran continues, Tehran may take steps to strengthen its control over the strait. The exchange follows recent diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland, which were referenced in the report.
