Erdogan Calls for UN Security Council Reform, Palestinian Statehood

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, declaring the United Nations incapable of fulfilling its peacekeeping duties and calling for reform of the Security Council. He condemned the situation in the Gaza Strip, stating that "no one with a conscience can turn a blind eye" to the events there. Erdogan expressed regret over the absence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from the General Assembly meetings and urged countries that do not recognize a Palestinian state to reconsider their positions. He also implored all nations to increase pressure on Israel to end the war.

Erdogan also stated that Turkey is actively engaging with all parties involved to end the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen. He emphasized that the ongoing hostilities do not serve the interests of any party and affirmed Turkey's commitment to continued diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. The Houthi group has intensified its attacks on Saudi Arabia amidst renewed fighting in Yemen.
