Israel National Football Team Begins Nations League Campaign Amid Tensions

The Israel national football team is set to commence its UEFA Nations League campaign on Thursday, September 24th, facing an injury-depleted Austria in Graz. This match marks the beginning of a series of games that are expected to be politically charged, particularly the upcoming fixtures against Ireland and Kosovo.

Israel's second match, scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, will be against the Republic of Ireland in Debrecen, Hungary. This game is anticipated to be highly contentious due to ongoing public discourse in Ireland critical of Israel, with some voices calling for a boycott. Despite this, the Irish Football Association has confirmed their team will participate to avoid UEFA sanctions.

Following the Ireland match, Israel will host an improved Kosovo team, featuring Fenerbahçe striker Vedat Muriqi, on October 1st, also in Debrecen. The current international window will conclude with a second match against Ireland on October 4th.

The team, managed by Ran Ben Shimon, will play a total of six matches in this Nations League phase. Additional games are scheduled for November, including an away fixture against Kosovo on November 14th and a home game against Austria on November 17th, which will conclude Israel's campaign.
