Jerusalem Reform Synagogue Vandalized for Fourth Time in a Month

A Reform synagogue in Jerusalem's Bakah neighborhood was vandalized for the fourth time in just over a month, with the latest incident occurring on the eve of Yom Kippur, September 20. Vandals broke a window, threw a glass object into the building, and tore down an LGBT flag. The following day, September 21, police arrested one suspect in connection with the incidents. This marks the second time an LGBT flag has been removed from the "Kol HaNeshamah" community synagogue. Previous attacks include a broken window and entry into the prayer hall on August 16, during which an LGBT flag was also torn down, and an egg-throwing incident on Rosh Hashanah, September 13, targeting worshippers leaving the synagogue. "This violence is fueled by systematic incitement against Reform Jews, including from elected officials," stated Anna Kislanski, CEO of the Reform Movement in Israel. She urged police and authorities to take the incidents seriously, ensure community protection, and bring the perpetrators to justice, vowing that the synagogues would remain open for all. Security camera footage has been provided to law enforcement, and statements have been filed for each incident.
