Israel Considers Revoking Citizenship for Filmmakers of Controversial Gaza Documentary

Israel's Population and Immigration Authority has begun examining the possibility of revoking the citizenship of Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shore, creators of the documentary film "No Other Land" (Nez'a). The decision follows a request from Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar, who asked the authority to explore revoking their Israeli citizenship.

The move comes a week after intense public debate surrounding the film, which won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. Minister Zohar had previously urged the Interior Ministry to investigate whether the filmmakers' actions in obtaining and publishing materials for the film constituted treason or aiding an enemy during wartime.

In parallel, Zohar contacted Shin Bet Director David Barnea, requesting an investigation into the source of the information used in the film and whether enemy elements were involved in its transfer. The documentary itself has sparked significant controversy in Israel since its Venice premiere, presenting testimonies about the IDF's operations in the Gaza Strip, which critics argue unfairly portrays the military's actions.

The Population and Immigration Authority clarified that this is currently only a preliminary review.
