News Reporter Slams President Herzog Over Pardons

Channel 12 reporter Ilan Lior has launched a scathing public attack on Israeli President Isaac Herzog, criticizing his decision to grant clemency to Elor Azaria, an IDF soldier convicted of manslaughter.

Lior's remarks came in response to a social media post by Herzog on X (formerly Twitter) ahead of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. In the post, Herzog reflected on the themes of mercy and forgiveness inherent in the Jewish faith, wishing the nation a good final sealing and an easy fast.

However, the president's message sparked widespread debate, particularly concerning his recent decision to pardon Azaria. Azaria was convicted in 2016 for shooting and killing a neutralized Palestinian assailant in Hebron.

Lior, known for voicing his opinions on prominent public issues, directly addressed Herzog, stating, "I have no intention of forgiving you. You are worse as president than Netanyahu as prime minister. You are a disgrace to the country and an insult to the presidency. Never has a less worthy person served in it. No person with morals and values will ever forgive you. Resign and get out of our lives."

This criticism follows similar public commentary from other figures, including fellow Channel 12 reporter Guy Peleg, highlighting the ongoing controversy surrounding presidential pardons and their implications.
