Blue and White Party to Back Disqualification of Arab Party and MKs
The Blue and White party announced on Tuesday that its representatives on the Central Elections Committee will vote in favor of disqualifying the Balad party, along with MK Sami Abu Shehadeh and MK Ofer Cassif, from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. The party cited support for terrorist activity and opposition to Israel as a Jewish state as the reasons for its decision.
Despite backing the disqualifications, Blue and White emphasized its general principle that the public should ultimately decide who represents them. The announcement came ahead of a Central Elections Committee hearing to discuss the disqualification of various lists and candidates.
Balad, Abu Shehadeh, and Cassif have faced previous disqualification attempts, often based on allegations of supporting terrorism or opposing Israel's existence as a Jewish and democratic state. The committee's decisions can be appealed to the Supreme Court.
