Israel National Football Team Skips Pre-Match Gala Over Provocation Fears

The Israeli team's decision follows controversial remarks by the Irish national team's coach, Heimir Hallgrímsson, who stated, "We don't play with genocide, we play against genocide. Therefore, we play against Israel, we don't play with Israel." The Israeli FA responded by calling his comments a display of "ignorance, stupidity, and hypocrisy."

Additionally, an opinion piece published in The Irish Times argued that the Irish Football Association should cancel the matches against Israel, drawing a parallel to Ireland's boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest over the situation in Gaza.
