Israel Defense Minister Cites Buffer Zones, Iran Strikes in Security Address

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have established buffer zones along the country's borders with Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza. Speaking at a memorial ceremony for fallen soldiers from the Yom Kippur War, Katz emphasized that these buffer zones are a direct lesson learned from the October 7th attacks, aimed at preventing radical groups from operating near Israeli communities. He noted that these areas have been cleared of residents, and the military is dismantling all underground and above-ground infrastructure.

Katz also highlighted that the IDF has conducted two preemptive strikes against Iran, which he described as a key lesson from the 1973 war, aimed at eliminating threats, leadership, and strategic targets. He warned that Israel is prepared for a third strike if necessary to eliminate what he termed a "terrorist regime." The Defense Minister asserted that the military will not withdraw from its current positions in Gaza until Hamas is completely destroyed and the territory is demilitarized.

Furthermore, Katz issued a stern warning to regional actors, including Iran and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He declared that if even one Israeli citizen or soldier is abducted, the entire city of Gaza would be evacuated to the south, and its infrastructure would be extensively destroyed, mirroring actions taken in other parts of the Strip. The minister concluded by honoring fallen soldiers and security personnel, crediting their bravery for Israel's achievements.
