Police Seek Extended Detention for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police are requesting an additional eight-day detention for Mahmoud Samhat, a resident of Kafr Mandah, who is suspected of fatally hitting 17-year-old Amihai Attia in Hadera. The incident occurred on the night of Selichot prayers at the "Mol Ha'hof Village" complex.

During his interrogation, Samhat claimed he was at the location to deliver merchandise. He stated that youths attacked him, prompting him to flee the scene. He further asserted that he did not feel he had struck anyone while driving away.

The incident took place last Thursday during a confrontation at the shopping complex. Attia was struck by a vehicle and critically injured, with his death later confirmed. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries from gunfire and was taken for medical treatment.

The Shin Bet has ruled out any nationalistic motive for the incident, and the police are treating the investigation as a criminal matter.
