US Seeks Gaza Progress Post-Israeli Elections
The United States anticipates progress in the Gaza peace process following Israel's Knesset elections, scheduled for October 27th. U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated on September 21, 2026, that the American administration is counting on the elections to break the current deadlock.
According to Al-Monitor, the U.S.-proposed peace plan is stalled due to significant disagreements between Israel and Hamas. Key sticking points include the sequence of implementing agreement clauses, specifically Hamas's disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. These security-related disputes have led to a negotiation impasse.
The U.S. leadership believes the current political pause, linked to the Israeli election campaign, will end with the formation of a new parliament. Washington hopes that after the Israeli elections, international mediators can facilitate compromise solutions to resume the peace plan's implementation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly evaluating his future strategy, including potential relations with the U.S. administration. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated he would not interfere in the Israeli election process or endorse specific candidates.
