David Tzvi and Sheham Shoshana Attia held their firstborn son's pidyon haben ceremony on Thursday at the "Homeward" movement compound near the fence surrounding the Gaza Strip. The location was chosen deliberately, because the couple had celebrated their sheva berakhot there exactly one year earlier, after their wedding.
Returning to the same site, they marked another major family milestone in a place they say has special meaning for them. During the ceremony, the couple spoke about their hopes for the future and their connection to the area.
They said they are "looking forward, hoping and demanding" to hold their son's first haircut ceremony, the halakha, in "Shvut Gaza" on the other side of the fence. Their remarks reflected their broader aspiration for the future of the region and the bond they feel with the location where they celebrated both events over the past year.
