Israel's 'Beeper Operation' Crippled Hezbollah, Led to Nasrallah's Despair

Two years after a sophisticated Israeli operation, codenamed "Operation Beepers," which targeted Hezbollah operatives, the full scope of its devastating impact is being revealed. The operation, executed by the Mossad, involved embedding explosives into thousands of beeper devices distributed to Hezbollah members. When activated by a remote signal, these devices detonated simultaneously, causing widespread casualties and chaos.

The attack, which occurred on September 17, 2024, resulted in approximately 5,000 casualties, including hundreds severely injured and over twenty fatalities. Among the dead were commanders from Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard. Reports from Lebanon indicated that the Iranian ambassador, Mojtaba Ameri, was also injured, losing sight in one eye, which analysts interpreted as a sign of deep ties between Tehran and Hezbollah's decision-making.

Intelligence assessments suggest the operation profoundly impacted Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, pushing him into deep depression. His son, Jawad, stated that his father was never the same after the beeper attack and a subsequent assassination. Nasrallah himself described the event in a speech as a "severe and unprecedented security blow" and an "act of war." The psychological toll on Nasrallah, witnessing close associates injured and realizing Israel's advanced capabilities, is believed to have significantly impaired his judgment and confidence, potentially contributing to his eventual demise.
