A 24-year-old man from Karmiel has been charged in Acre Magistrate’s Court with a violent family assault, threats, and repeated violation of a court order. According to the indictment filed by the Galilee North prosecution unit of the Israel Police, he allegedly attacked and choked his mother after she refused to give him money for drugs, then later stabbed his 17-year-old brother in the face, all less than two hours after being released under restrictions.
The incident began at the start of the month, when the defendant came to his mother’s apartment in Karmiel and demanded money to buy narcotics. When she refused, he reportedly threw cups and a set of plates to the floor and threatened to kill her and other family members. The violence escalated when he choked his mother with both hands so forcefully that marks were left on her neck. When his teenage brother tried to protect her and separate them, the defendant headbutted him in the forehead.
Police were called to the apartment, arrested the suspect, questioned him, and jailed him. The next morning he was brought before the court and released with conditions, including a 21-day ban on entering Karmiel and a personal bond of 10,000 shekels.
According to the charge sheet, those restrictions did not stop him. Less than two hours after signing the release terms, he violated the order, returned to Karmiel, and entered the family home again. He shouted, grabbed a kitchen knife, and stabbed his younger brother in the cheek, causing a 1-centimeter cut and bleeding. He then took the boy’s cellphone, called his mother and threatened to kill her, and later called his father from the same phone and threatened him as well. Northern District police arrested him again, and after repeated extensions of his detention for investigation, prosecutors filed charges of assault, threats, and breach of a judicial order.
