Rod Stewart, 81, had a frightening moment during a weekend concert in Utah when he felt unwell, nearly lost consciousness, and had to stop performing for oxygen treatment. Video posted online showed the British singer hunched over and looking exhausted as crew members brought a portable oxygen tank from backstage.
After getting help, Stewart returned to the stage, told the audience he had almost fainted, and kept the mood light by joking with the crowd. He completed the rest of the show sitting on a chair.
The incident came after several weeks of health-related disruptions to his schedule. Earlier in the month, he said some Las Vegas shows were postponed on doctors’ orders while he recovered from influenza. He later canceled four more performances and postponed two others because of a severe upper respiratory infection that also caused inflammation of his vocal cords.
Despite the latest scare, Stewart is still scheduled to continue his “One Last Time” tour across the United States in the coming months. His final show is currently set for mid-August in St. Louis. As of now, neither Stewart nor his representatives have issued an official statement about the Utah episode.
