Jordan Shua's Unprecedented Bench Streak Continues for Beitar Jerusalem

Beitar Jerusalem's star player, Jordan Shua, is set to start on the bench for the third consecutive game as the team faces Hapoel Haifa on Saturday. This marks a significant and unusual occurrence for the player, who has rarely experienced such a prolonged period of being a substitute.

The last time Shua was benched for three league games in a row was at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season. If one counts games where he came off the bench after previously starting in the same season, the streak extends back to his first season with Beitar in 2019/2020.

In the current 2024/2025 season, Shua was a substitute in the last two regular-season matches but started before and after those games. Last season, he started in 31 out of 33 league games, and the season before that, he started in 28 out of 32. In the 2023/2024 season, he started in 30 out of 31 league appearances.

Following a match against Maccabi Petah Tikva where Shua provided an assist, he shared and subsequently deleted a social media story stating he should start every game. Beitar Jerusalem's coach, Almog Cohen, opted to keep Shua on the bench, continuing with the attacking lineup that secured victories in the previous two matches.
