Likud MK David Bitan criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the party’s upcoming primary election, saying in an interview with ynet Studio that Netanyahu benefited from the party’s democratic selection system and should not reject it when it no longer suits him. “If there were no democratic system, he would not have entered Likud,” Bitan said. “He was elected through the democratic system. You cannot enjoy it and not want it when it does not work out for you.”
Bitan also explained why, in his view, Gadi Eisenkot has been rising in the polls. He said Eisenkot is managing to obscure the fact that he is “a clear leftist.” Bitan added that Eisenkot’s background as a bereaved family member and as a Moroccan Israeli gives him “a very interesting head start in these elections.”
