A 26-year-old woman and her six-month-old baby were rescued on Sunday morning from a crushed private car after a severe crash on Route 38 near Tel Azeka, close to Beit Shemesh. The car collided with a truck, trapping both inside and prompting a large emergency response.
Firefighters from Israel Fire and Rescue worked to free the mother from the wrecked vehicle. Medics from Magen David Adom, Team Hatzalah, United Hatzalah and rescue crews were called to the scene after reports of trapped victims, and found the mother and infant in urgent need of treatment.
Team Hatzalah volunteers Yossi Horowitz and Harshey Hominar said, “When we arrived, we saw a private car driver trapped inside the vehicle and her six-month-old son with minor injuries after being hit by a truck.” After the rescue, responders provided first aid, including immobilization and bandaging.
The woman was classified as in moderate condition with injuries to her limbs, while the baby was lightly injured. Both were taken by a Magen David Adom intensive care ambulance to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem for further treatment in the trauma unit. Jerusalem District Fire and Rescue said firefighters from the Beit Shemesh station were dispatched to a crash with trapped victims near the Valley of Elah on Route 383, and confirmed the victims were a mother and infant. The incident came amid several serious road accidents in Israel in recent days, including a motorcyclist critically injured on Route 4 and another killed on Route 20.
