Russians Prepare for Mass Exodus Amid Mobilization Fears, Eyeing Israel

Russians are reportedly preparing for potential border closures and a new wave of mobilization, leading to a surge in interest in emigration. Rights organizations have noted a significant increase in inquiries from individuals seeking to relocate abroad, with the "Ark" project observing a substantial rise in consultation requests for relocation since late summer. European media reports indicate that these sentiments have reached record levels in recent years, as citizens fear stricter border controls and new restrictions for those eligible for military service.

Unlike the chaotic scenes of autumn 2022, current departures are more organized, with plane tickets still available and less visible congestion at transport hubs. However, many are acting preemptively to avoid potential internal isolation. Popular destinations for immediate relocation include visa-free countries like Armenia and Kazakhstan.

A portion of Russian citizens are also exploring repatriation to Israel through its existing legal frameworks, viewing it as a path to a stable future for those with Jewish heritage. While the number of Russian immigrants to Israel had gradually decreased in recent years, with just under 6,000 arriving in the Jewish year ending September 2026, Russia remains a primary source of immigrants. Israeli diplomatic missions and the Jewish Agency "Sohnut" are equipped to handle new arrivals.

Should rumors of further mobilization prove true, Israel could face a rapid increase in immigration and the subsequent need for emergency integration of thousands of new citizens.
