Apple TV+ has announced a September 23 premiere date for "Brothers," a new comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who also serve as executive producers. The first season will run eight episodes, with two arriving on launch day and new installments released weekly through November 4.
The series is built around a playful premise: McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalized versions of themselves and, after decades of friendship, discover a long-buried family secret that could mean they are actually brothers. The story begins when Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart. He responds by packing up his family and moving for a while to Matthew’s ranch in Austin, Texas.
What starts as a temporary retreat quickly turns into chaos when Matthew’s mother, Ma, accidentally reveals a family secret that has been hidden for years. As Woody becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth, Matthew faces his own identity crisis and the possibility of running for governor of Texas. The show blends family comedy with themes of friendship, fame, and the blurred line between reality and myth.
The cast also includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Heidi Kuan, Una Yaffe, and Holland Taylor, who plays Matthew’s mother. Lee Eisenberg, an Emmy nominee and Peabody winner, is the creator and executive producer. Paramount Television Studios is producing the series for Apple TV+, and director Trent O’Donnell helms several episodes, including the pilot.
