Stratasys Wins $27.6 Million Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Chinese 3D Printer Maker

Israeli 3D printer manufacturer Stratasys has been awarded approximately $27.6 million in damages after a jury found Chinese company Bambu Lab and its affiliates guilty of patent infringement. The verdict was delivered by a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas following a week-long trial.

The jury determined that all four patents in question were valid and had been infringed upon by Bambu Lab and the other defendant companies. The awarded sum represents compensation for past infringements.

The patents cover various 3D printing technologies, including a heated print bed, a method for layer-by-layer object construction using molten material, a mechanism for clearing material residue during color or material changes, and a system for detecting print head contact and pressure for enhanced printing accuracy and calibration.

Stratasys filed the lawsuit in August 2024 against Bambu Lab, Shanghai Lunkuo Technology, Tuozhu Technology, and Shenzhen Tuozhu Technology. This trial concluded the first of two patent infringement cases Stratasys is pursuing against the companies in Texas; a fifth patent is expected to be addressed in a separate trial at a later date.

Following the verdict, Stratasys expressed its satisfaction, thanking the jury and the court, and reiterated its commitment to developing technology and protecting its intellectual property. Bambu Lab has not yet publicly responded to the ruling. When the lawsuit was initially filed, the company stated its commitment to respecting and protecting intellectual property while advancing the 3D printing field through research and innovation.
