Israeli Handball League Kicks Off With Dominant Wins and Close Finishes

The Israeli Winner Handball League commenced its season with a series of matches, featuring several one-sided victories alongside a dramatic close contest. Newly promoted teams Hapoel Arad and Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin both began their top-flight campaigns with losses. The league's promotion and relegation system was frozen for the current season due to the 'Guardian of the Walls' operation.

In the opening round, defending champions AS Ramat Hasharon secured a commanding 43-21 victory over Hapoel Kiryat Ono. Maccabi Holon continued their strong form with a 39-20 win against Maccabi Beer Sheva. Hapoel Ashdod defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 32-27, while Ironi Rehovot narrowly beat Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin 32-31 in a thrilling encounter.

Hapoel Arad made their historic league debut, falling 38-29 to Hapoel Rishon LeZion. Despite keeping the score close in the first half, Arad couldn't contain Rishon LeZion in the second, with Orie Pelach sealing the win. Maccabi Tel Aviv, who had beaten Ashdod earlier in the season in the Winner Cup, were unable to replicate that success, falling 32-27 at home.

Ironi Rehovot avenged an earlier cup loss to Kiryat Motzkin with a dramatic one-goal victory. After leading by six at halftime, Rehovot saw their lead shrink significantly in the second half, ultimately winning 32-31 after Kiryat Motzkin missed a final chance to equalize. The match between Maccabi Rishon LeZion and Bnei Herzliya was postponed to September 29th due to Maccabi Rishon LeZion's European commitments.
