MK Accused of Exploiting Teen's Tragic Death for Political Gain

A 17-year-old Israeli boy, Amihai Attia, was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Hadera on Thursday night. Attia, a resident of the Itamar settlement and a student at the "Hetzim" yeshiva, was struck by a car driven by an Arab resident of Kafr Manda while leaving a Selichot (penitential prayers) event. Security camera footage shows the vehicle reversing at speed towards Attia, hitting him with force before continuing. Attia was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center.

The incident occurred amidst a violent confrontation at the "Mul Ha'hof Village" complex, though the Samaria Regional Council emphasized that Attia was not involved in the altercation. The full circumstances of the event are still under investigation.

Following the tragedy, MK Adi Azouz of the Yesh Atid party posted on social media, "On Thursday they vow, on Friday they stab, and on Saturday they guard. The days of the Netanyahu-Ben Gvir government." This statement, made just hours after the fatal incident and before the family had buried their son, drew sharp criticism for allegedly exploiting the tragedy for political purposes. The Samaria Regional Council condemned Azouz's remarks, stating that while she was engaged in campaigning, the community of Itamar was mourning Attia, described as a beloved, value-driven, and vibrant student who left behind his parents and five siblings, including a twin brother.
