Singer Shahar Tabuch and Mother Eti Discuss Their Close Bond

Singer and actor Shahar Tabuch, 26, and his mother, Eti Tabuch, 55, shared insights into their exceptionally close relationship in a recent interview. Shahar, known for his roles in "Shababnikim" and the film "Hola Chao," recently released his second album and is preparing for his third appearance at the Festigal. He married musical producer Amir Aharon in August.

Eti described Shahar as a "very, very happy, energetic, creative, and colorful" child who showed artistic talent from a young age. She always believed he would achieve great things in the arts and expressed pride in his self-made success, though Shahar countered that his mother's unwavering support, waiting for him during countless activities, was crucial. Eti also revealed her ongoing struggle to fully accept Shahar's religious observance, stating, "I do everything not to lose him... but inside, in my being, I'm not there yet." She explained this internal conflict stems from her analytical nature and non-religious upbringing, and she fears his religious path could lead to extremism. "That's why I even say thank you for having a gay child," she admitted, "because it won't allow him to be absorbed into some extreme Haredi stream."

Shahar came out at age 14. Eti recalled noticing his inclinations from a young age, such as his preference for playing with dolls and his close friendships with girls. While she initially feared the challenges he might face due to societal reactions, she ultimately felt immense pride when she saw him marry the man he loves. Eti also expressed a desire to be a grandmother, though she hopes for a few more years before that happens.

The interview highlighted their deep mutual reliance, with Shahar admitting his mother still manages his bank accounts, schedules appointments, cooks for him, and often drives him due to his lack of a license. Eti humorously noted they speak an average of five times a day, with Shahar joking that his mother would be upset if he didn't call. They also discussed their occasional disagreements, with Shahar apologizing for not always showing his appreciation enough and Eti apologizing for her internal conflict regarding his religious observance. Shahar reassured his mother, stating that her struggle is part of faith and that he loves her unconditionally.
