Germany secured its place in the next round with a 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast, sealed by substitute Deniz Undav’s stoppage-time goal. Ivory Coast, nicknamed the Elephants, went ahead in the 30th minute through Franck Kessie, but Undav responded with two goals to complete the turnaround.
The result gave Germany its second win in Group 5 and confirmed qualification for the knockout stage. It also marked Germany’s first successful passage through the World Cup group stage since winning the tournament in 2014.
Germany had been eliminated in the group stage in both 2018 and 2022, making this advance a significant turnaround after two straight early exits.
