Thousands of people demonstrated in Novi Sad, in northern Serbia, to mark the deaths of 16 people in 2024 after a railway station canopy collapsed. The protest also called for early elections and for President Aleksandar Vucic to end his 13-year rule.
Protesters, opposition figures, and human rights groups said the station disaster reflects broader government failures. They argued it points to poor management of construction projects and to corruption.
One demonstrator said, “We must stand our ground, express our will and win. We have no other choice.”
