Yeshiva Students Released From Military Prison After Rosh Hashanah Arrest

Three students from the Neve Yaakov Kibbutz Yeshiva, Noam Shemueli, Eliab Azulai, and Netanel Habura, were released from military prison on Tuesday after being arrested while traveling to the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman, Ukraine. Their detention sparked significant controversy within the religious community.

During their imprisonment, the students claimed they were denied the opportunity to recite Selichot prayers on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, despite repeated requests. Following public outcry and media attention, they were eventually permitted to recite the prayers in the early afternoon, a time not typically designated for them.

Upon their release from the military detention facility, fellow yeshiva students organized a festive and emotional reception. The celebration included spirited dancing and singing, a special motorcade, a red carpet, and torch-lit processions by their friends. The released students and their peers then held a morning prayer service outside the prison before continuing in a joyous atmosphere towards the Sukkot holiday and Rosh Hashanah.
